Growing up as a Millennial, society believes that the media shapes us, which is true. The media has always shaped people, even when it was less engrained into our everyday lives. For my final editorial assignment, I asked people to choose a book or a specific quote for a book that they feel helped to shape them to become the person they are today. To make this concept a reality, I scanned pages from the chosen books, and then edited the text on to studio portraits of each model. Some Images were more successful than others, mostly due to my editing skills as I've never taken on a project of this caliber before, but overall, I was satisfied with the bunch. I would love to expand this concept to focus on other forms of media eventually, because I know that music has had one of the largest impacts on my life and I would like to document that relationship.
Since I don't graduate until May I thought I would keep you all updated with a few of my assignments and the thought process of what I do.
For this assignment, I shot some photos of my friend, Katie, which I cutely titled: Sew It Goes.
Katie has always been close to what one might called "obsessed" with fashion, and between being a plus-sized woman (the clothes are stupid expensive, let me tell you), and a (broke) college student, she hasn't always been able to afford all of the clothing items she so frequently lusts over. Instead of wallowing in her inability to afford the clothes she saves to her loves list on Etsy.com (A website where people all over the world can sell handmade items that range from clothing, to flower pots, to cleansing stones), she decided to do it herself and taught herself to sew about two years ago and she's been learning more everyday ever since.
